Super Bowl, Republican Convention, Bollywood Oscars are just a few national events that have brought a spotlight to the Tampa Bay Area and now The Tampa Bay Theatre Festival. Tampa is not the first thing that comes to mind when any arts enthusiast thinks of theatre. This new festival created from director, actor, producer Rory Lawrence is changing that. The festival has gone into its second year and it’s attendance has boosted drastically from last year. It’s own Awards party tickets selling out five weeks before the start of the festival. It’s mission is to bring artists and theatre fans together for a weekend of education and entertainment. This weekend’s festivities were from Sept 4-Sept 6. It included six full length plays, seven workshops (one of which included a Master Acting class from Harry Lennix), an open mic night and networking event.
Darcy Britton-Kant of Level Talent Group hosted the How to Get An Agent workshop. There were attendees all the way from North Carolina to Miami. An informative directing workshop from experienced actor and stage director Andre Minkins. Harry Lennix (The Matrix, Ray, Man of Steel) had an incredible Master Acting class that no respected actor should have missed. I was only able to attend Six Triple Eight full length and it was worth every penny. I only wish there was more hours in the day to have been able to attend everything!
